Resident Permits

If you love Turkey and want to make it your home, you will need to apply for a Residence Permit.  Our guide to the residence permit application procedure is shown below and we will be happy to assist you with the process when you are ready to apply.

Long-Term Residence Permits are suitable for anyone who has eight continuous years on a Turkish Residence permit with no longer with 120 days in any 12 month period outside of the country and Short Term Permits last up to a maximum of two years. Your passport must be valid for the duration of the permit you have applied plus 60 days.  The ruling of 120 days out of Turkey in any 12 months has been abolished.  A  Family Residence Permit is available for a maximum of  three years and there is no limit on the number of children (under 18) that can be included in a family residence permit but all passports must be valid for the duration of the permit applied plus 60 days, the 180 days out of Turkey in any 12 months ruling has been abolished.  Student residency permits are available for up to 12 months and will only be issued with a letter of consent by a parent or legal guardian.

You will need the following documents:

·

An existing valid tourist or residence visa/permit

·

A Valid passport that is valid for the duration of the permit plus 60 days, this needs to be photocopied in color together with a photocopy of the page with your last visa entry stamp

·

At least 6 (best to obtain more) color passport biometric size photographs

·

Mandatory health insurance for each applicant under the age of 65

·

Proof of address in Turkey, this is available from your local government Nufus office

·

If you are applying for a Family Permit you will need a marriage license or certificate,  proof of sufficient resources for the duration of the permit applied for and valid health insurance for all members of the family that are under the age of 65

To apply you need to visit the E-Ikamet website https://e-Ikamet.goc.gov.tr/ and fill in the online application form.  Choose the ‘Application for Extension’ tab if you are renewing your permit or ‘First Application’ for all other applications.  You can book an appointment with the nearest DGMM office and chose the type of permit you require.  The fields that are highlighted in red must be completed but if you also complete the black fields this will speed up the application. When fully completed you will see a screen confirming the application and be given an application reference.  Make a note of this for future reference.  Click on the ‘Residence Permit Application Document’ and this will allow you to print if off as you will need to sign in and take it with you to your appointment at the DGMM office.

Application fees can be paid at the GOC/DGMM offices or at a branch of HALKBANK or your local tax office (vergi dairesi).  You will need your tax number and quote the tax reference number: 9069 when paying to ensure your payment is accepted and registered to an ‘ikamet card’ (or ikamet tax) payment.

There are a few anomalies on the form:  British nationality is listed as the United Kingdom;  the Granting Country is your home country;  the Granting Authority is the name of the government department that issues passports for example, HM Passport Office UK.  The photograph you need to upload must be a standard issue passport photo that conforms to Biometric profiles and ensures you print your application after completion.
